Deja Vu

Hi Friends ๐Ÿ™‚

What a surprise: the weekend went waaaaaay too fast. It feels good to get back into the work routine, but at the same time, I sure wish I could sleep in every morning!

First up, here is the epic eats of the day:

Gina’s Sweet Potato Black Bean Chili. (Yes I had chiliย the day before tooย — it is the perfect fall food!)

And some sweets for my sweetie:

Katie’s Pumpkin Pie Cookies. These were great! Tasted like cinnamon pumpkin muffin tops. And yes I made pumpkin blondiesย not too long agoย – deja vu ๐Ÿ™‚

So I mentioned a few days ago that I was thinking about training for Grandmas Marathon again next spring, but to be honest I have changed my mind every day since then. So I’ll keep thinking about it and trying to figure out if I should just go for it. I know I have time to think, but I like to make decisions and stick with it! Thanks for all the nice thoughts though, I appreciate the encouragement!

I have been working out with this dvd:

20 lbs in 30 days? I don’t think so Jillian — even if you are TV’s toughest trainer (right, Katie?!?) ๐Ÿ™‚ Jillian is tough — My shoulders burn after doing this workout and I love that it isn’t a dancey-aerobics type dvd. Sometimes its fun to dance around my living room, but getting down to business with pushups and squats is more fun, dontcha think? ๐Ÿ™‚

Jason and I have decided to go to VEGAS in November — now we have to decide where to stay and what to do! Any suggestions? For now we have no set budget amount…

1. What was the best part of your weekend?

2. Have you seen any good movies lately? All I have been watching is Hoarders episodes On Demand. I can’t stop watching that show!

3. What is your favorite breakfast? I have been eating oatmeal or eggs/toast every morning for weeks now — any suggestions for something different or new?

Have a great Monday!

Holly

When you go to Vegas, I would highly recommend staying at the Venetian – great location on the strip near everything, decent food options and it’s a gorgeous hotel. It’ll be the perfect time of year to visit.

  2. Tanya Says:

    I 2nd the Venetian!

My weekend was pretty low key, so I guess the best part was seeing “Salt” – good movie (we have a $2.00 theater close by that gets movies a little later than regular). As for breakfast, I would say my favorite is probably a good waffle with yogurt & fruit preserves – I’m really easy though, and it’s usually oatmeal mixed with protein powder most of the time.

  3. Hollie @ Lolzthatswim(andRun) Says:

    I love watching hoarders!

I have pancakes every morning and it never seems to get old since you can mix it up so many different ways hehe.

  4. Matt Says:

I am making cornbread this week so I might make that chili ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun Says:

I want that chili now. I’m making a grocery list while reading blogs so it was perfect timing for you to share that.

  6. Myra Says:

watch food inc or the cove on netflix. tyler and i watched those this weekend and they were really good documentaries, i thought. i don’t necessarily agree with everything they said but fascinating nonetheless.
i’m jeal that you’re going to vegas. t and i were inside all the hotels on the strip and you really can’t go wrong no matter where you stay. soopy jeyyus!!!!

  7. Holly @ Self-love and Running Says:

I have done 30 Day Shred before and while I did see results, I certainly didn’t lose 20 lb.!

  8. Shanna, like Banana Says:

Hmm, 20lbs eh? Yeah, I think my body would look a little off/gnarly if I lost 20!

I love hot oats for breakfast. LOVE. THEM.

    Happy Monday ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw The Social Network most recently and I loved it! I watched The Mist on demand yesterday and it was…weird. For breakfast I’ve been eating overnight oats if it’s not too cold, or oatbran or oatmeal with apples. I pretty much eat the same things every day! Sometimes a smoothie, but it’s been too cold. I had baked winter squash, apple sauce, and an egg the other morning, and it held me over for a long time.

  10. leashieloo Says:

I always love the random little decorations you insert in your food pics ๐Ÿ™‚ Feels quite festive.

  11. Heather Says:

i’ve been making breakfast sandwiches lately with eggs and cheese and grilled/roasted veggies…yum!

  12. Dorry Says:

Vegas will be a blast! I’ve only been once. We stayed at the Wynn which was lovely but a bit of a walk to the big-name casinos. I suggest seeing a Cirque du Soleil show if you can – we saw O, the one with water. My favorite part of the weekend was movie date night Friday – we saw The Social Network – I loved it. Also had fun at my 10-yr high school reunion. ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to mix up my breakfast. Big bowls of oats aren’t keeping me full as long as they used to. I think I need more protein in the morning.

  13. Laury @thefitnessdish Says:

The highlight of my weekend was the Phillies making it to the NLCS!! And watching Cole Hamels adorable toosh on the mound last night ๐Ÿ˜‰

The chili looks amazing!! breaksfast lately has been cereal and amazing grass…although I love a good bowl of cinnamon raisin oatmeal…and for lunch, I have been eating breakfast A LOT…egg sandwiches ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Beth Says:

That is so funny. I was going to make black bean chili this morning but decided to get all creative and throw sweet potatoes in there. Guess its been done!!

  15. Mary @ Bites and Bliss Says:

The best part of my weekend was getting to see Michael :):)

Those cookies look so yummy! Cinnamon pumpkin muffin tops..yummm!!

I saw the new Karate Kid over this past weekend and it was really good. Movies take a lot to keep my attention but that one managed pretty well ๐Ÿ˜›

  16. Maria @ Oh Healthy Day Says:

Ooh, Vegas is fun! We love the Bellagio, but the new hotel that just opened in the new town center is great. I believe it’s called the Aria. Very modern and organic looking, whereas the Bellagio is very traditional elegance. Can’t wait to read about your time there!

  17. Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) Says:

Working on the studio has been the best and worst part of the weekend. I am kind of over it now! As for a new breakfast…definitely waffles! That is my new go to quick tasty eat as of late!

  18. Katie Says:

I eat eggs everyday I just jchange up the veggie mix-ins and sauce. But then again that’s what I do with all my meals. ๐Ÿ™‚

So glad you liked the cookies!! The pumpkin loving is going strong.

  19. Becky Says:

Vegas sounds like a fun vacation destination! I have never been, so I’ll be waiting to hear what you think ๐Ÿ™‚

My boyfriend’s family has a Columbus Day feast every year. It’s a non-traditional family tradition and I love it. So many good foods and good people in one place!

  20. 40apples Says:

I deja vu my food all the time ๐Ÿ™‚

Movie recommendations: The Social Network!! I am recommending it to everyone. So good. For dvd/tv… have you seen the Pelican Brief? It was on TV the other day and I watched it – I forgot how awesome it is! Julia Roberts in all her mid-90s glory.

My favorite breakfast can be seen in like every post from the last two weeks… I am just too obsessed. Oatmeal (with groats) + pb and pumpkin butter and banana. (this would be my worst case of food deja vu)

  21. Angela (the diet book junkie) Says:

yay for vacation!! i’ve never been to Vegas but i’m sure you’ll have a great time. make sure to visit Tom Colicchihio’s restaurant, i wanna hear all about it ๐Ÿ™‚

i haven’t seen a good movie in a while (my attention span is very short these days, i can’t sit still for 2 hours.) i’d suggest a new breakfast but i eat the same thing EVERY DAY. you just can’t go wrong with cereal.

  22. katie Says:

I LOVE the looks of that soup!! oh my goodness gracious! sooo fall-ish. i LOVE me some oats!! oh my goodness! BUT I had some delish french toast this AM with pumpkin!! love ou girl ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) Says:

I really liked the movie “The Social Network.”

  24. Wendy @ Seriously Sassy Says:

Vegas sounds fun! I’ve never been there.
Your chili and your pumpkin goodies look sooooo yummish!!
Best part of my weekend was relaxing at my parents’ house while listening to the sounds of Liss hanging out with her grandpa out in the backyard and loving every minute of it!

  25. Baking Serendipity Says:

Those cookies sound amazing! I’m a total sucker for pumpkin in the fall…and chili in the winter. Sadly in Arizona, “winter” in December/January is as close to chili weather as I get.

  26. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) Says:

Katie is my homegirl, and so are you. MN & WI chicks unite ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you made her cookies. The egg is a no-go for me ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Rash/hives city!

Anyway Vegas. Let’s talk. I am pretty much a Vegas girl!!! love it! We got married in Vegas 10 yrs ago. And I have been there tons. I am Bellagio all the way. Love it there. I have stayed lots of places in Vegas but always go back to the Bellagio. Best restaurant/meals in the entire world, or at least Top 5 ever eaten, ALWAYS have come from Michael Mina’s, a restaurant inside the Bellagio. Seriously I am one picky bitch and that place never ever has disappointed. Truly 5 star all the way but not uppity 5 star.

Shows…anything cirque. See Mystere and O. They are amazing.

Things to do? I could help you spend 10k in Louis Vuitton. Can I come with ๐Ÿ™‚

And Grandma’s. Smart to play that one closer to the vest as time plays out….

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Amykinz Says:

I can’t wait to make those pumpkin blondies from the other day! Also, I’ve been trying to train for the Diva Dash in Centerville, MN on Nov 13th. Want to run in it with me? I could use the extra motivation! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve done Jillian’s DVD, but I never made it past the first workout. lol. I don’t care much for Jillian. I think her techniques can be abusive at times. And I’d rather dance around. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve never been to Vegas, but I’ve been told to watch out for the prostitutes!!! haha! If you do a bit of research, there are TONS of free things you can do in Vegas, I’m told. My favorite breakfast… loaded oatmeal (w/lots of different healthy/filling things in them)… comforting and keeps me full.
