I Walked 9 Miles for Trump Pizza

Hi Friends
Aaaaaaaand its Hump Day! The week is flying by!
If you missed Day 1 in Vegas click *here*. Onto Day 2:
We got up at about 2:30am. This was really rough for the both of us. We had tickets to see the KQRS morning show (a local MN radio station was broadcasting live in Vegas that weekend) – I listen to them every morning so I thought it would be fun.
I was wrong.
I figured the entire audience would be drunk, and I was right, but they weren’t “funny drunk” like I thought they would be. They were “annoying-won’t-stop-talking-super-loud-drunk”. Plus the show had really lame guests. PLUS we had to take a $40 cab ride to get to the casino (it was in downtown Vegas, not on the Strip).
I did like the Golden Nugget Casino/Hotel though. Lots of Dave Chihuly art pieces (or Chihuly knockoffs!)

So, our trip was not off to a great start. We headed back to the hotel and took a long nap. After a few hours we got up, got ready and headed towards the Strip:

A friend suggested that we eat at the buffet in Caesar’s Palace. He claimed it is “the best buffet in Vegas”. I thought it would be a great place to eat.
I was wrong. Again.
I didn’t even take any pictures because it was so sad – the most pathetic salad bar you could ever see: iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, olives and 2 kinds of dressing, and other foods not worth mentioning. The dessert bar was ok:
I was in a really bad mood after such a mediocre lunch. But we kept walking…
Finally we got to the Bellagio and bought our tickets to see O on Saturday night (my mood improved after that!) There we saw more Chihuly art on the ceiling and some HUGE pumpkins!!!
It finally got dark and we got to see the lights! We continued to meander through the casinos and hotels:
Finally we got to the “end”: The Luxor and Excalibur. I think Excalibur is the cutest casino – I just love the design.
We were so tired from getting up early to go to the lame radio show that we headed back to the hotel.

9 miles!!! No wonder our legs were so sore. We ordered room service for dinner (again!)

Cheese/Tomato Pizza for me:

Turkey sandwich/waffle fries for Jason:
Looking back, it doesn’t look like we did much on our trip so far. To be honest it was just such a relief to get out of our house, to get out of town, to not have to work and to spend some time together! It felt great to be outside and just to explore a new place!
Trump Pizza was pretty good — tell me about your favorite pizza!

Excalibur is the best!! That’s where me and Tyee stayed. Our room was garbage though, couldn’t afford anything fancy… Did you go inside and see “Dick’s Shame O’ The Strip”?? LMAO
We had the buffet at the Excalibur and it was HUGE – and the food was buffet-ish but it was good! I’m surprised Caesars’ buffet was no good. Aunt Diane works at the buffet in the Bellagio – too bad you didn’t eat at that one and accidentally meet her. Not that you would’ve known each other.

  2. Myra Says:

Not that I own you or anything, hey a red sidewalk.

nine miles! that’s a great hike!
sorry you had a couple disappointments to start your day, but things improved as the day went on, at least!
love the self portrait of you and jason (just above the pedometer photo). the hubs and i love doing self-portraits – they’re often the photos that turn out the best!
    have a great wednesday, holly!

  4. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun Says:

I hate when things on vacation are disappointments. Sounds like the night ended on a high note. And whew on 9 miles!

  5. Hollie @ Lolzthatswim(andRun) Says:

Wow that looks like so much fun though. Relaxing vacations are by far the best.

I am a meat lovers pizza lover all the way. Although sometimes I like to have all veggies too yumm.

If you get a chance to head to another buffet, definitely check out Paris! 🙂 Enjoy “O”!

We stayed in Luxor last time, while I liked the price (cheap) and the pool (nice), I didn’t enjoy the the location alllll the way down at the end of the strip. And everything appeared to be so close! There was a rude awakening when we started walking, good times.

Bellagio is awesome! I love staying there!

Love the pic of you and your man, so cute!

The pizza looks good and worth the long walk!

    Love ya girl!

  9. Katie Says:

Love the Chihuly glass! That and the Cirque shows were my favorite b=parts of Vegas.

  10. Shanna, like Banana Says:

That’s what I love about vacays like that..tons of walking!

Im so in love with pizza right now. I feel like I can eat it for every meal!

  11. Beth Says:

I loooooove white pizza with roasted garlic. I agree that getting away is nice no matter how much or little you do!

  12. Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) Says:

I am with you, while sometimes, when I look back at trips, it feels like we didn’t do much, but just being out together and exploring things makes a great vacation for me.

  13. spabettie Says:

I should have had a pedometer… we walked all over also!

Even with some mediocre food, you are together and doing what you want to do and having fun! That is vacation! 😀

  14. Kristy Says:

Great pics! Bummer about the buffet, but that pizza looks amazing!

  15. Maria @ Oh Healthy Day Says:

So sad that your buffet experience wasn’t good. When I was in Vegas, I too found the food to be awful. Maybe it’s just me, but it was overpriced and did not seem fresh nor healthy.

  16. Kylie @ A Hungry Spoon Says:

That’s what going on vacation is for–getting away and spending time together! Too much planning and activities leaves you exhausted when you get home.

Your trip looks like lots of fun so far, and the pizza looks awesome! My favorite pizza is at a local brick oven bakery (A New Day Bakery)–I like it loaded with tomatoes, spinach, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, and some pesto 🙂

  17. rc1001 Says:

We did the same thing – not a lot of specific activities – just a lot of wandering around. And 9 miles!! Wow! We must have done similar distances because I remember being EXHAUSTED after all the walking.

  18. Laury @thefitnessdish Says:

My first time in Vegas I didn’t bring sneakers..i was 21 and dumb, and we walked EVERYWHERE. We stayed at MGM, and it was a 20 minute walk JUST to get in the room! I have learned since.

In the 7 times I have been to Vegas, I would have to say Mirage has the best buffet. My hubby is a picky eater and self proclaimed foodie and he agrees. Food is VERY important to him…especially dinner. He spends most of our funds on dinner because of that. I never ate at Caesars buffet, we stayed there once though. Sorry you have a bad time at the radio show and the buffet.

I really like downtown Vegas. There’s an AMAZING restaurant there, Hugos or something like that. All the women get a rose…we have eaten there 2x. Been there forever, a hidden treasure. Old Vegas is a great place to go at night to see all the lights….and the gambling is really cheap, so we try to get down there 1 night of our trip. I only discovered how great it was 3 trips ago.

Can’t wait to hear more!! I miss Vegas 😦

  19. Amykinz Says:

I LOVE all that art!!! I’ve never heard of the artist before, so thank you!!!

  20. Becky Says:

I’m always in the mood for pizza, especially when I’m tired! You certainly saw a lot of Vegas.

  21. Wendy @ Seriously Sassy Says:

Wow, girl – great pictures! You’re making me wanna finally go to Vegas! I love the picture of all the little colorful things – chihuly art looks cool!
    9 miles….that’s a great walk!

My favorite pizza is actually Domino’s. How sad is that?!!

  22. Elina (Russian Bites) Says:

I love vegas because of all the cirque du soleil (sp?) shows. Last time I was there I saw Ka and it was mind blowing. I didn’t eat any great food but next time I’d definitely do more research. Good food makes or breaks things for me.
PS – Whoa, 9 miles of walking!!!

  23. mostlyfitmom Says:

Oh man, I hate lame buffets. Glad the pizza turned out, though! I saw O a few years ago. Okay, actually more than a few years ago, but it was really good. The performers are so amazingly athletic. Hope you enjoyed!

  24. Alex @ IEatAsphalt Says:

Just the idea of Trump pizza is cool to me! I usually stick with the Dr. Oetkers variety which are super good for frozen varieties.

  25. Holly @ Self-love and Running Says:

Your new bangs look super cute!

  26. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) Says:

“He claimed it is “the best buffet in Vegas”. I thought it would be a great place to eat.

    I was wrong. Again.”–

Oh god Vegas buffets are wayyyyy overrated. Way. There is nothing good on them and it’s iceburg lettuce city!

Walking to see KQ and spending $40 and lots of drunks later..oh, so sorry. I used to listen to KQ too 🙂

And you went all that way…for pizza and room service. That is totally something scott and i would have done back in the day too.

    O, Bellagio, and real chiluly…GOOD!!! 🙂

  27. Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) Says:

I’m impressed that you haven’t mentioned gambling yet! Did I miss it? Or are you against it? I usually get suckered into the black jack tables 😉

  28. Dorry Says:

That pizza looks so good! There are a couple of places in Dallas that I’ve grown to love. My favorite combo is bell pepper, mushroom and artichokes. I usually ask for extra sauce and I love when the crust is crispy but still chewy. Mmmm, I see some pizza in my near future.

  29. Angela (the diet book junkie) Says:

such cool pics, Holly! hope you got some good ones of Cirque du Soleil! 🙂 i know what you mean about not feeling you did a lot (i felt the same about NZ) but i think it may be because there’s SO much to do, and you can’t possibly fit it all in. we hope to go back to New Zealand next year and catch what we missed!

  30. Mary @ Bites and Bliss Says:

Ohh so gorgeous!! Vegas kind of gets a bad reputation from movies and what not..but it really is a beautiful place. 🙂
