The End of the Hunger Games

Last night for Jason’s birthday we ate at one of my favorite places!

KHAN’S!

(the first photo is recycled from a July post — I wish there was green grass in MN right now!)

My Dad was kind enough to take us out (woohoo for free meals!) and my sister Kim joined us as well. Poor Mom stayed home sick  😦  I swear we go to Khan’s for almost every birthday/celebration dinner — the food is just that good!

Tuesday was a fun day – I worked a ½ day, picked up a gigantic smiley face balloon (forgot to take a picture!!!) and met Jason at his work – gave him the humiliating balloon and then we went to lunch. Afterward, I went home, took a little snooze and then read!

I am finally done reading the Hunger Games series – I loved reading them but I’m happy to be done. I stayed up way too late way too often – and that is not something I can keep doing. I need my rest.

So what can I say? I loved the series. I loved the main character throughout the first 2 books, and although she seems to change a bit in Mockingjay — I still liked her. And I cheered for her to do the right thing. I thought the author did a nice job of picking up the pieces at the end and giving you some closure with the series — although I’d love to read more about the characters I don’t feel like there is more to the story at this time. I don’t want to give too much away so that is why this is vague. Feel free to email me (couchpotatoathlete (at) gmail (dot) com) if you want to talk more specifics.

Pick up those books. Read them. The end.

*Do you like to go to the same restaurants/bars time after time or do you prefer to try out new places?

I honestly like to go to the same place over and over again. I like feeling comfortable in my surroundings, and a new place can seem intimidating if I’ve never been there before.

When I was younger my family always went to the same places. Generally we went to the places where you could feed 6 people without spending a fortune (read: fast food). I always thought my town only had chain restaurants but I’ve been finding out lately that Gainesville has a lot of unique places to eat. Now I’m on a mission to try them all, just need to find someone to go with me! I can certainly identify with feeling that new restaurants are intimidating, since I’m vegetarian I always worry that I won’t be able to find something to eat – salads get boring after awhile and they’re so expensive at restaurants.

I’m like you. I like to visit the same restaurants over and over again cause I know what type of food they offer and others are so uncertain if they do accommodate children or not.

  3. Lisa Says:

Khans looks great—I’ve never had mongolian bbq I don’t think.

We usually go back to the same place over and over too—we have three places that we really like, and just rotate between those!

    • Holly Says:

You need to try Mongolian BBQ! You load up your bowl with what you want (meat if you choose, tofu, seafood, noodles, tons of veggies and then apply seasonings) — then you walk over to the huge wok and they cook it for you! It is unbelievable delicious.

glad you had such a fun day yesterday, holly! i bet jason enjoyed the balloon surprise and dinner out (so nice family could celebrate with you, but sorry to hear about your mom).
we have a place in town called “the mongolian grill” – i’ve never been, but i bet it’s similar to khan’s!
I really like when you review books because you give your opinion, but you never give spoilers – glad you enjoyed the series! will look forward to seeing what you tackle next – hopefully something that won’t keep you up reading too late…but then those are the best books, when you’re really into them.
    have a great wednesday!

    • Holly Says:

Thanks Cathy! I feel like I’m not saying anything about the book — but I like to be surprised when I read a book or watch a movie. I don’t want to know too much or I feel like my experience was ruined.

  5. Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) Says:

I am so glad you had a great day! We don’t go out much…it’s just a pain in the butt. The one place we go to often is Moe’s for taco salads. The kids love it and we like it too, so it works. I hope you have a great Wednesday!

  6. Beth Says:

I love to try new restaurants since there are SO many in DC from time to time, but I do end up going to a lot of the same places where I know the food is good and reasonably priced. There’s this one Vietnamese restaurant by my house I would eat every meal at if i could!

  7. Katie Says:

I go to the same places too. Comfort is….um…comforting. 🙂

Glad you liked the series! LIke you, I kind of felt a little weird at the end. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it, but I felt like I wanted something more? else? I don’t know. I also think I want to read them again, because I am SURE i missed some nuances. There was so much going on, especially in the last book!

  8. Hollie @ Lolzthatswim(andRun) Says:

I’m such a regular at certain restaurants. It;s actually rather embarrassing but I love what I do and I’m not one for change. I do like to try new things sometimes though. It’s just extremely hard ha. 😉

  9. Shanna, like Banana Says:

Yes! I seriously crave certain specific dishes over and over again, but feel some sort of guilt for not trying something new. I need to get over that!

  10. Kayla Says:

I love Hunger Games! So addicting!

  11. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun Says:

We like to try new places sometimes but I find we usually go back to favorites a lot too. We try more new places when we get Groupons. I can happily eat the same favorites of mine though. Looks like a great place! 🙂

  12. Stephanie @ The Cookie Battle Says:

I always like trying out new places, but I have my old standbys too…it all depends what I’m in the mood for. I just bought the Hunger Games, I can’t wait to start!

  13. Alaina Says:

I seem to be a creature of habit too. If I know a restaurant is good, I’ll go over and over again. 🙂

  14. IHeartVegetables Says:

We used to always go to Max & Erma’s for birthdays (in Ohio) but now that I’m in VA, we don’t have them here. I’ll have to find some place new!

  15. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) Says:

Omg I used to date a guy who loved going to Khan’s Mongo Bbq!!!! SMALL WORLD!!! And as a raw vegan, that is NOT my kind of food, but I would go b/c he loved it. And we went….lots.

I love going to the same places when i know there is truly something there that I just can’t get anywhere else. If i am going out these days, i at least want to know i will enjoy what i am going to pay good money for!

    • Holly Says:

So true about getting something you can’t get anywhere else — going out should be special!

Khan’s is the best — I’m not sure if it is a national chain but there are 4-5 locations in the Twin Cities.

  16. Laury @thefitnessdish Says:

We tend to eat at the same places all the time. Michael is a creature of habit. I always want to try new places….he never wants to “risk it.” I understand, if you go out once a week you want to know it’s going to be good. Sigh. Never had Mongolian food? Never even saw a Mongolian restaurant before!

  17. theveryhungrybookworm Says:

While I love trying new places, I could go to the same couple of places for the rest of my life and be happy.

I’m glad that you enjoyed The Hunger Games!

  18. bakebooks Says:

What is that dish!! That’s MY kind of food – very similar to what I eat most nights actually – a ginormous mess of vegetables, meat, grain – rice, pasta, squash – spaghetti sauce and CHEESE ! Eeek:)

    • Holly Says:

The Mongolian BBQ is a make-your-own-stir-fry place. You load up a bowl with meats, noodles and veggies, then take it to the big wok where the workers cook it up for you. It is delicious!

  19. Dorry Says:

We used to always go to the same place for birthday dinners when we were growing up. Now, Billy and I enjoy trying new restaurants every now and then, but we always return to our favorites!

  20. Christin@purplebirdblog Says:

I’ve been staying up way too late lately too… I’ve gotta get on the ball before I start my new job next week! 🙂

  21. mostlyfitmom Says:

Yay for being done The Hunger Games series! I liked that it didn’t have the neat and tidy ending that you might have expected (hope that’s not a spoiler for anyone).

I am a creature of habit. We go new places once in awhile, but typically go the same few places over and over. And I often order the same things over and over. I, too, find it comforting. 🙂

  22. simplynutritiouskate Says:

I love trying new places but lately its been sushi every time we go out and we found a place we love so its pretty predictable!
