Kickass TGIF

Good Morning!

Thanks everyone for your comments about weekly grocery costs, meal planning, dietary restrictions, etc. Budgeting and meal planning is one of my favorite things to doyes I said “favorite” – and I am looking forward to writing some posts on those topics.

I know everyone is so excited for the Nuttzo Giveaway:

But its not happening today! I will be posting the giveaway tomorrow, and yes it will be for one entire jar of Nuttzo! So check back in the morning 🙂

Speaking of giveaways, did I mention I won a giveaway? From The Healthy Apple? Check it out:

Justin’s Nut Butter: Chocolate Hazelnut. Check out the stats:

I thought I should eat it on an apple (in honor of The Healthy Apple) 🙂

This tastes like chocolate frosting. I am definitely hanging onto these little packets for traveling, etc. They are the perfect serving size and only 80 calories! Thanks Amie!

Thursday night J and I had date night. We have a super busy weekend and needed some time to relax and rewind. We had a gift card to TGIFriday’s and went to use it up!

I got the Caribbean Chicken with extra veggies:

J got the Captain Morgan Caribbean Conga-Line Chicken Sandwich (with huge pieces of avocado and sweet potato fries)

Same thing we got last time. This Captain Morgan rum glaze is seriously the best! Afterward I ran to the Redbox (are these a local thing? A vending machine for movies?) and was hoping to find The Lovely Bones (I just finished the book last week and still need to see the movie) but it wasn’t there. Instead, I picked up this:

I think we’ll watch it tonight. We’ve picked out such awful movies lately (The Professional — older movie with Natalie Portman and then recently Legion — horrible movie with Dennis Quaid). They were both pretty awful. Lets hope Kickass isn’t super lame.

I finished Thursday night with a haircut (just a trim). Am I the only one who loves the feel of someone else brushing your hair? I think it is so calming. I also soaked in our jacuzzi tub and read more Sookie. I think it is so important to spend some time on yourself every day. I need the relaxation! I try not to treat myself with food, so I do little things like taking a bath, reading my book, taking a walk, painting my nails, buying myself something expensive small. 🙂

Here’s our crazy weekend:

Saturday: Farmers Market, drive 2 hours to J’s family reunion, drive 2 hours to friend’s wedding, drive 2 hours home (ugh!)
Sunday: Drive 3 hours to BBQ/Picnic, then drive 3 hours home (ugh!)

So much time in the car. I am not looking forward to that!

What do you do during long car rides?

What are your plans for the weekend?

Did you answer my budget questions yesterday? If not, will you please?

Have a great day!

Holly

Hm…we don’t have Justins in Canada.
Its crazy how much nut butter I go through. I (literally) have 2-4 tablespoons PER meal and snack (and i eat 6-7 times a day)…yeh, u do the math on that…

    Have a good weekend.
I crashed my car over a month ago (and I dearly miss it…its not great cause I live a ways away from the business hub-bub…so I can only afford one cab a week for necessities, and otherwise I am literally “trapped”….its very mind-messing).
But when/if I do have car, I spend A LOT of time in it. Music is the only thing to attempt distraction.

  2. Heather Says:

Congrats on winning the giveaway! I’ve always wanted to try those nut butters, they look yummy.

Wow! you are ging to be in the car a lot!! I do not envy you…sorry. when we travel it’s with 3 boys…so, there’s always something going on 🙂

  3. Holly @ Self-love and Running Says:

My family reunion is tomorrow too. Unfortunately we’re not going to be able to make it due to the husband having had surgery this week.

The husband and I spend a lot of time singing and car dancing during long trips. LOL

We rented Kick Ass last weekend. It was much different than I thought it was going to be!

  4. Jen Says:

wow. that tgif food actually looks yum.
but that hzlnut butter looks SOOOOO goood 🙂 gonna see if we have that here!

  5. Laury @thefitnessdish Says:

I am headed to AC tomorrow for some fun with hubby and friends 🙂

I don’t budget, but I should, because I am always broke from shopping at WF to much. It’s sad. So, I need to look back at everyone elses budget tips!!!

    Have a fun weekend, Holly!!!

  6. 40apples Says:

Hair brushing = SO nice! And I’m so jealous of your jacuzzi tub 🙂 I agree it’s important to have non-food “treats” – I’m such a food lover, I could become a little too dependent on it for my self-treating needs! I love a good book, a good movie, a good walk.

Wow that IS a lot of driving for the weekend. I don’t envy you… I drove down to Virginia and back a few weekends ago, 7 hrs on Sat., 6 on Sun., and I wanted to never see the interior of a car again!! But we spent our time listening to fun music, reading, and enjoying the scenery. Oh! Also: if you like public radio, it’s a great thing to listen to on long rides – especially if you have podcasts of your favorite shows downloaded on an mp3 player (and if you can hook it up to the car speakers). Entertaining, information… makes time fly by. I listen to podcasts on long subway rides 🙂

  7. michellestgermain Says:

I second the public radio idea. My husband and I both like Car Talk and This American Life – if it happens to be playing on npr – or you could download them too. Usually I just bring along a magazine or play on my iPhone. I hope your traveling goes smoothly!

  8. Maria @ Oh Healthy Day Says:

Haha Kickass is fun! It’s an entertaining movie, so don’t expect too much, but it is pretty cute.
Redboxes are all over from what I hear!

I love long drives with my FH, we get to talk, make vacation plans, fight over the radio and get creative about trying to eat healthy on the road. In fact, we drove across the entire country once in about 4 days and I’d do it again with him in a heartbeat – it was that much fun.

  9. Kristy Says:

Congrats on the giveaway, looks delicious! Don’t think I’ve ever had hazelnut butter, sounds yummy! Have a great weekend!

  10. Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) Says:

    I love Justin’s!

PS: I liked the book The Lovely Bones, but DID. NOT. like the movie… just wanted to give you a heads up. If you do see it, I’d love to know what you think 🙂

  11. rc1001 Says:

Me and chocolate hazelnut spread are like peas and carrots.

Lately my boyfriend and I have been listening to audio books in the car. It is actually a GREAT way to pass the time. Then we pause it every once in awhile to discuss!

We have some of his friends coming in town this weekend with their boat! We are headed to the lake.

  12. Nicole @ Getting Back to the Basics Says:

I LOVE having someone brush my hair! Little girls are great for this because they actually LIKE to do it for you 😛

I thought Kick Ass rocked, but I can definitely see how it would be that way for everyone. Hope you guys like it!

  13. Wendy Says:

WOW – you guys DO have a busy weekend comin’ up! Hope you enjoy every minute!
I’m totally with you on two things:
    – I, too, LOVE having somebody brush my hair.
    – Taking a little time for yourself every day IS important. I’d crumble without it. That is part of the reason we will only have one child.
And we have redbox around here, too. Love it! Let us know how “Kickass” is – lol!

  14. Wendy Says:

I ALWAYS forget to answer your questions!!

What do you do during long car rides?
We have a little 3G internet modem thingie that we take on longer car trips so whoever’s not driving can play around on the iPad. Makes the trip FLY! Also, it’s the perfect time to just chat with my hubby and sing songs with Liss!

What are your plans for the weekend?
    Tonight: totally chilling
Tomorrow: hanging out with Hub and Liss, work out!, then going to a birthday party at 4:00.
Sunday: church, work out, grocery and meal plan….

  15. tia Says:

Kick ass is probably the oddest movie I’ve ever seen, and not in a bad way but it’s SO not what you expect it to be. I bet you’ll be super suprised, make sure to let us (Me!) know how you like it! I just recently watched it.

I usually read on long car rides, my boyfriend isn’t much of a talk and drive kind of guy, likes to enjoy some music and just cruise along. Weekend involves mostly cleaning, but I don’t mind it : )

  16. mostlyfitmom Says:

Mmm, that nut butter sounds delish! Watched part of Kickass – it’s quirky. But I didn’t have a chance to watch it from the beginning, so I’m not a fair judge.

On long car rides, I usually try to stop the kids from fighting, and otherwise just veg and think and chat with my husband.

This weekend I’ve got a 15k run Sat, an easy 30 min run Sun, we’re going to my parents to visit and drop my kids off for the week, and then last minute rushing to get ready for my first day of school on Monday!

And thanks for the nice comments on my post! I glad I’m not alone in not feeling fit, even though I know that I am.

Have a great weekend, even though it’s a busy one 🙂

  17. Alycia [Fit n Fresh] Says:

Your weekend is pretty packed girl! I love long car rides. Most of the time I chat it up, but sometimes it’s nice to just sing until your jaw hurts lol

    Have fun!

  18. Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) Says:

I haven’t tried either of those nut butters but they sound so good! I liked Kick Ass, but it reminded me of Mystery Men but way more hard core! I hope you like it.

As for the long drives, definitely books on our iPod. I love long drives with my husband. We talk pretty much the whole time!

Have fun at the farmer’s market tomorrow!

  19. Becky Says:

Busy weekend! I absolutely cannot read in the car, so I love singing and playing car games. This is probably not so great for the other riders, but too bad 😉

I am actually really excited for my long run tomorrow because I have some blog friends joining me, including one of my new HLS buddies.

  20. Michelle Says:

    Ahhh food porn 😉

I usually make lists if I’m not driving. But if I’m driving I am belting out every song on the radio. And I know every song. I kind of drive a lot 😉

  21. kaztronomic Says:

Congrats on your win! 😀 I want to try Justin’s peanut butter, but can’t bring myself to buy a full jar just to try it. I think I’ll buy one of those mini-packs just to sample it. =)

I’ve heard Kick-Ass was pretty good — it got solid reviews from what I read/heard.

I have to work this weekend — hiss, boo! 😛

I actually just space out on long car rides. Books on tape are a great idea for staying alert, though. 😀

  22. carly Says:

That’s a lot of driving but it looks like a fun weekend!

  23. Katie Says:

Oh Justins PB is the best ever, never tried the chocolate flavors yet! I love PB with Apples too! Yum!

SOunds like you got a BUSY weekend planned! Let me know how that movie was, Mike and I wanted to maybe rent it!

    Love ya girl! xoxo

  24. Angela (the diet book junkie) Says:

wow, that’s some weekend you’ve got planned! have fun at your friend’s wedding!

car rides…..i’m not so good at. i prefer to do the driving so at least my mind is occupied. if you’re able to read in the car, i’d say bring a good book and a comfy pillow 🙂

me? i have an organic food expo this weekend and….that’s about it! hopeing to get in a (short) run!
